My name is Ryan Lay and I am a senior at Texas A&M University majoring in Recreation, Park and tourism Science. I did my internship at Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department.
Mansfield Mission Statement: A dynamic, growing community with a rich history and a bright future.
The intern will have each week with different parts of the department. You will have projects that you will be required to complete with each department. For the internship as a whole you will have one main project to complete for your internship.
Interns are paid $10 an hour. There is no room and board provided. I had to find my own place to live.
Depending on what you are focusing on the staff really go out of their way to introduce you to important people that can help you. They really care about trying to make sure you benefit from your internship. They go above and beyond for you.
The staff found out that I wanted to do music festivals for a living and they had me put together a sales pitch. My performance on the sales pitch determined how much freedom I was going to get on the music festival. After my sales pitch they let me help run the festival and they gave me a stage to manage. I helped decide what to sell during the festival as well. I have learned more on how to put together a music festival and helped give them my knowledge on how to put together a successful music festival.
